CHARACTER : sweet
VARIETY : Chardonnay / Savagnin / Poulsard / Pinot noir / Trousseau
DESCRIPTION :
Macvin du Jura is made throughout the region, accounting for 3% of total production. It is the only fortified wine made using a spirit (eau-de-vie) distilled from grapes rather than wine: unfermented grape juice is fortified by the addition of this eau-de-vie, in a ratio of three to one. The wine is then aged for at least 12 months in oak casks. Macvin du Jura is normally a white wine, produced using Chardonnay and Savagnin grapes, but a red version is also made from the Trousseau, Poulsard and Pinot noir varieties. Its fruity notes and spicy aromas make it ideal as an aperitif, or for serving with melon, fruit-based desserts or chocolate cake.
